Type locality. “America.”

Distribution. Widespread in northern South America, mostly in Amazonia ( Plt. 6A View Plate 6 ). Recorded in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela ( Plt. 6A View Plate 6 ). In Brazil, widespread in Amazonia, with marginal records in the Caatinga, Cerrado, and Chiquitano Dry Forest ( Plt. 6A View Plate 6 ), mostly at low elevations ( Plt. 6B View Plate 6 ). Observed in the field in forest ( Duellman, 1978; Dixon and Soini, 1986; Cunha and Nascimento, 1993; Martins and Oliveira, 1998).
