Description

This species was described in detail by Mesnil (1957). Some additional characteristics are given here.

Male. Vertex about one-quarter of head width; frontal vitta widened anteriorly, about 1.6 times as wide as fronto-orbital plate at middle; parafacial slightly narrowed below, slightly narrower than first flagellomere at middle height in lateral view; one reclinate and two proclinate orbital setae; gena about one-third of eye height; first flagellomere about three times as long as pedicel; palpus yellow, clavate, slightly shorter than first flagellomere; two presutural and three postsutural acrostichal setae; two or three presutural and three postsutural dorsocentral setae; two postsutural intra-alar setae, first seta absent; three supra-alar setae, anterior seta very fine; two katepisternal setae; anatergite bare; scutellum with four pairs of marginal setae, lateral seta very fine and apical seta slightly longer than scutellum; relative lengths of costal sectors second, third and fourth approximately as 3: 6.5: 4; vein M from dm-cu crossvein to its bend about 1.4 times distance between the bend and wing margin; second costal sector haired below; legs reddish yellow, tarsi black; fore tibia with two posterior setae; mid tibia with two anterodorsal, three posterodorsal and one ventral setae; claws and pulvilli long.

Female. Unknown.

Type material examined: Holotype male of Hygiella pygidialis, Kambaiti , 7000 ft, northeast Burma [ Myanmar], 23.v.1934, R. Malaise ( FMNHH).
