Valid name: Molossus molossus (Pallas, 1766)

Syntype: ZMB 2468 View Materials , skin, skull not extracted, male; Ipanema, Brazil; collected by J. Natterer.

Comment : According to Temminck (1827) specimens from Brazil that were collected by Natterer are at the NMW. Pelzeln (1883: 44) also mentioned three specimens collected by Natterer, however, according to Barbara Herzig (pers. comm.) no specimens fitting these descriptions were found in the NMW. ZMB 2468 may thus be the only remaining syntype .
