Valid name: Thyroptera discifera (Lichtenstein & Peters, 1854)

Lectotype (designated by Wilson 1976): ZMB 59067, body in alcohol, skull extracted (missing), male, adult; Puerto Cabello, Carabobo, Venezuela; collected by von Appun.

Paralectotypes (same locality and collector as for the lectotype): ZMB 437 View Materials , body in alcohol, skull not extracted. ZMB 85622 (old number = An 17687), skull (damaged) and skeleton, male .

Comment: For the status of ZMB 59067 see Wilson (1976). Lichtenstein & Peters described the species on the basis of three specimens .
