Valid name: Otonycteris hemprichii Peters, 1859

Syntypes: ZMB 441 and ZMB 442 , skins, skulls not extracted; both specimens from Egypt; collected by Hemprich & Ehrenberg, between September 1821 and 21 July 1822 .

Comment: Ellerman & Morrison-Scott (1951: 180) restricted the type locality to “probably from some

part of North-Eastern Africa”. Later, Kock (1969: 184), based on published information, restricted the type locality to the Nile valley between north of Assuan, Egypt , and Chondek, south of Dongola , Sudan .
