Valid name: Rhinolophus hildebrandtii Peters, 1878

Syntypes: ZMB 5267 , body in alcohol, skull extracted, adult . ZMB 5378 – 5379 , skins, skulls extracted, males. All specimens from Ndi, Taita, Kenya; collected by Hildebrandt, July 1877 .

Comment: In the current list of mammal type specimens at BMNH (http://www.nhm.ac.uk/jdsml/ research-curation/projects/mammal-types/) the specimen 1879.1.21.1 is identified as the holotype of Rhinolophus hildebrandtii . However, Thomas (1894) mentioned for the collections of BMNH only a “typical” specimen, not a type specimen, hence specimen 1879.1.21.1 possibly represents a syntype .
