Remarks. Male genitalia of P. brevicollis ( Orofino et al., 2006: Figs 87–88, 92–93) strongly resemble that of P. peruviana , the latter distributed in the Pacific coastal river valleys from Tumbes as far south as central Lima, in Peru ( Rivera, 2001). Orofino et al. (2006) described P. brevicollis on the basis of a single male specimen with type locality in Santa Rosa de Quives, a small town only a few kilometers north of Lima city (approximate coordinates: 11˚41’43”S, 76 ˚50’49”W), and where P. peruviana is also found. Pronotal proportions and conformation of male genitalia in P. brevicollis fall within the range of variation observed across multiple populations of P. peruviana we examined ( Rivera, 2001). Given this evidence and the sympatric range or both species we are convinced that they are conspecific and therefore we establish this new junior synonym. Patel & Singh (2016a) overlooked Rivera (2001) and continued to report this species under Vates .
