Myrcinellus festae Giglio-Tos, 1898

Type locality. Giglio-Tos (1898): “Valle de Santiago, S. Jose ” ( Ecuador).

Examined material: none.

Remarks. Giglio-Tos (1898) described this species (originally as Myrcinellus festae ) based on a single female specimen obtained in “Valle de Santiago, S. Jose”, Ecuador. According to Trueb & Duellman (1971) “Valle de Santiago ” is found in Morona Santiago province in south eastern Ecuador, and refers to the lower Río Zamora, a tributary of Santiago River and part of the Marañon River basin. The specimen Giglio-Tos (1898) studied was originally collected by the Italian naturalist Enrico Festa, who explored the Ecuadorian Andes from 1895 to 1898. Agudelo et al. (2007) reported this species from Peru, but the original source of this record ( Jantsch, 1999) indicates distribution in Madre de Dios, in south eastern Peru. Although this species is likely to occur in northern Peru, the Madre de Dios record requires confirmation.
