Anthurium sakuraguianum View in CoL is similar to A. regnellianum Engler (1878: 96) View in CoL , from which it differs by having cataphylls and prophylls entire at the apex and stem base, petiole slightly asperous, internal basal vein straight, forming the collecting vein and the spathe usually forming a acute angle with the peduncle.
Type:— BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro. Macaé de Cima , 28 October 2012, specimen in flower, L . G . Temponi , L . C . F. Rocha and J . A . Lombardi 1198 (holotype HRCB!, isotype K!) .
Terrestrial herb. Stem erect, internodes 0.3−1.1 cm. Leaf: cataphylls dark brown, entire at the stem apex, entire to caducous at the stem base, 3−4.5 cm; petiole slightly asperous, 6.5−15.8 × 0.3−0.4 cm, flattened to slightly sulcate with obtuse margins adaxially, obtuse abaxially; geniculum asperous, 0.5−1.3 cm; blade erect, 14.5−25.9 × 5.8−7.4 cm, elliptic to lanceolate, darker on upper surface, abaxial epidermis papillose, greenish and chartaceous in dry material, apex acute to acuminate, base obtuse, truncate to slightly cordate; midrib adaxially acute, abaxially right to obtuse; 6−8 primary lateral veins on both sides; 2 basal veins on each side, the innermost straight in the lower third of the blade, and subsequently curved and parallel to the margin forming the submarginal collective vein, the outermost basal vein terminating at the margin in the lower quarter of the blade; submarginal collective vein 0.4−0.8 cm from the margin on each side. Inflorescence with slightly angled asperous peduncle, green, vinaceous-speckled, 6.5−14.9 × 0.2−0.3 cm; spathe erect at anthesis to reflexed post-anthesis, elliptical, 3.2−5.5 × 0.9−1.1 cm, forming a right to acute angle at the junction with the peduncle; spadix greenish to slightly vinaceus, tapered, sessile, 4.7−6 cm; principal spiral with 3 flowers; secondary spiral with 4−5 flowers. Berries not observed.
Phenology: —Collected with flowers in October.

Etymology: —The specific epithet “ sakuraguianum ” was given in honor of the researcher Cassia Monica Sakuragui, who has advised Brazilian researchers, including the first author, in the family Araceae studies.
Distribution: —Endemic to the Serrana region of the Rio de Janeiro state, where it occurs in the municipality of Nova Friburgo, in high-altitude rain forest around 700 m elevation. Shade-tolerant and rare.
Conservation:— Anthurium sakuraguianum is a rare species. It has been found only twice, therefore its preliminary IUCN conservation rating is “Data Deficient”.
