Material examined. AUSTRALIA, WESTERN AUSTRALIA: NMV J55006 View Materials , 1 female (cl. 25.0 mm), Abrolhos, 29°03.65–04.68´S, 113°38.16–37.80´E, 1000–1037 m, 0 2 Dec. 2005 (stn SS10/2005/084) (acq. 036); NMV J56121 View Materials , 1 male (cl. 19.0 cm), Mermaid L24 transect 16°38.06–38.76´S, 119°09.21–08.03´E, 987– 990 m, 17 June 2007 (stn SS05/2007/068) (acq. 045).
Type locality. Andaman Sea, 1027 m.
Remarks. Characters distinguishing this species from others in Australian waters include the sharply triangular, elongate, unarmed rostrum and the unarmed dorsal surface of carapace that lacks epigastric and outer orbital spines on the frontal margin. Munidopsis dasypus can be distinguished from the morphologically similar M. kensleyi by the presence of a distinct spine behind the anterolateral spine on the lateral margin of the carapace. This new material extends the range known for this species in Australian waters.
Distribution. Madagascar, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Laccadive Sea, Andaman Sea, Western Australia (Exmouth Plateau), Indonesia, South China Sea, Philippines, and Taiwan; 214–1480 m.
