Description. Forewings 2.0 times longer than wide, length in male 2.9–3.1 mm (mean = 3.0, n= 4). Male genital styles widening towards end, which is truncated; proximal dorsal process small, slightly shorter than wide; distal dorsal process much longer than proximal process, thick; both processes separated by a narrow gap only. Aedeagus with apical part broad and blunt; right side with a flat, dorsal lobe.

Remark. Very similar to Levu psittacus sp. nov. The above description has been shortened, due to this similarity.

Etymology. The species is named for P. Shanahan who collected the holotype and ' shanahani ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.1 mm), SOLOMON ISL.; labels: 1) SOLOMON IS./ KOLOMBANG- ARA/ Pepele, 30 m. / 13.II. 1964 2) P. Shanahan / Collector / BISHOP 3 ) Malaise Trap / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratype. SOLOMON ISL.: same data as holotype, 1 ♂; San Cristobal, Kira-Kira, 0–50m, 15+ 20.XI.1964, 2 ♂ (fw. 2x3.0) , R. Straatman , Malaise trap; Buka Isl., Gagan, 40 m, 8–11.XII.1959, 1 ♂ (fw. 2.9) , T.C. Maa (all BPBM).

Note. The type locality is Kolombangara Isl. in the Solomon Islands .

Distribution. Solomon Islands.

Diagnosis. Levu shanahani is indistinguishable externally from L. psittacus sp. nov., also found in the Solomons The males can be recognized by the genital styles having a long and thick distal dorsal process.
