Levu apiatus Zelazny , sp. nov.

Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, length: male 2.9–3.0 mm (mean = 3.0, n= 6), female 3.0– 3.6 mm (mean = 3.3, n= 4). Colour stramineous; margins of facial carinae orange; mesonotum, except scutellum, light brown. Forewings white; a large dark mark around first subcostal sector; lighter marks around apex of Cu1 and M- Ms4 fork; very faintly infuscated around bases of Ms1 and Ms2, as well as along apical cross-veins; veins white to stramineous; costal and apical margins as well as tips of last three subcostal sectors tinted with orange. Rostrum surpassing hind coxae; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae. Forewings with Sc+R fork slightly before middle of wing; Ms1 branched at the end of its basal quarter, bases of Ms1 and Ms2 connected by a cross-vein forming a small rhomboid cell. Male genital styles elongated; proximal dorsal process short, distal dorsal process long, both well separated. Aedeagus stem abruptly widening before apical portion; apical part flat, with two small humps on the dorsal side.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective ( apiatus , -a, -um = spotted).

Distribution. New Guinea.

Diagnosis. In forewing venation Levu apiatus shows similarities to L. rubrofrontalis Zelazny , L. patolai Zelazny , and L. rubropleuralis Zelazny , all from the Philippines. It can be distinguished from these by the dark marks on the forewings and by the male aedeagus lacking any pointed processes.
