Description. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length 4.2–4.7 mm (mean for male = 4.4, n= 3). Colour stramineous, margins of facial carinae light brown; forewings colourless. Facial carinae clearly separated. Male anal segment with very short, pointed lateral processes. Genital styles elongated, apex rounded, on the dorsal apical corner roundly produced; proximal dorsal process slender, upright, distal dorsal process with a broad, nearly rectangular base, a slender neck, and a nearly triangular apical part; at the inside near its base a finger-like process bearing bristles at the tip. Aedeagus with apical portion elongated, at the tip on the left side extending into a narrow, straight lobe; at the apex left side blade-like; right side broader and shorter.

Etymology. The species is named for R. Straatman who collected the holotype and ' straatmani ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.2 mm), PAPUA NEW GUINEA, labels: 1) NE NEW GUINEA/ May River / 6.VI.1963 2) R. Straatman / Collector / BISHOP . Paratypes. PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Morobe Prov., coast, 14.XI.1979, 1 ♂ (fw. 4.3), J.H. Martin ( BMNH); SOLOMON ISL., Malaita, Auki , 2–20 m, 3.X.1957, 1 ♂ (fw. 4.7), J.L. Gressitt, on sedge ( BPBM) .

Distribution. New Guinea and Solomon Islands.

Diagnosis. Dichotropis straatmani is indistinguishable externally from D. brevis sp. nov., D. nivea sp. nov., and D. peregrina sp. nov., all three also found in New Guinea. The males can be recognized by the very short lateral processes on the anal segment, by the genital styles being produced at the apical, dorsal corner and by the distal dorsal process of the genital styles having a broad and nearly rectangular base.
