Rhotana gracilis Zelazny View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Fig. 227)

Description. Forewings 1.7 times longer than wide, length about 4.9 mm. Forewings near hindmargin with four pairs of black marks, the last pair smaller than the rest; the marks are separated by a broad red band; additional red marks around last subcostal sector and along a middle section of Ms2; an area in front of black marks covered with white powder. Most veins of hindwings red near hind margin. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Stem of aedeagus long and slender; apical part without small lateral teeth, ends in two long, fine and pointed processes; the left process with a broad base.

Note. In the only specimen available fore and middle legs missing and hindwings damaged. Similar to Rhotana dextra , sp. nov. The above description has been shortened, due to this similarity.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective ( gracilis , -is, -e = slender).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.9 mm), INDONESIA, PAPUA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: NETH./ Waris, S. of/ Hollandia , 450–500 m / VII-24–31-1959 2) T. C. Maa / collector/ BISHOP ( BPBM).

Distribution. New Guinea (Indonesian part).

Diagnosis. Rhotana gracilis resembles closely R. dextra sp. nov. from New Britain and R. aequa sp. nov., also from New Guinea. It can be separated from both by the very slender terminal processes of the male aedeagus.
