( Fig. 223)

Description. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length about 4.9 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown (fore and middle legs missing in examined specimen). Forewings with three pairs of large and one pair of small rounded black marks, separated by narrow red bands and small white spots; an area in front of the marks, and five dots in between them covered with white powder; rest of wing glassy, light yellow-brown with hyaline areas near base and in apical quarter; middle of forewings slightly darker; a small red mark around last subcostal sector; middle of Ms2 faintly orange; remaining veins stramineous; parts of costal margin and apical margin orange-red. Hindwings colourless, but cross-veins between Sc, R, and M accompanied by faint infuscation. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower level of eyes; rostrum slightly surpassing hind coxae; subantennal processes and lateral carinae of pronotum well developed. Forewings with apical section of Sc slightly sinuate; Sc+R fork at middle of wing; Ms1 branched near apex of basal median cell, both branches nearly parallel, apical section of Ms1b connected to Cu1 by a crossvein, a large triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with sides of pygofer with a pair of very large and pointed projections, nearly reaching the end of the anal segment. Genital styles with ventral margin nearly semi-circular in outline; proximal dorsal process triangular, distal dorsal process with a wide base, narrowing abruptly into a slen- der apical part which is curved outwards. Aedeagus short and broad; apical portion with two pointed processes at its base, tapering towards the end which bears two additional, short, overlapping, and pointed processes.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (dentatus, -a, -um = with teeth).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.9 mm), INDONESIA, PAPUA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: NETH./ Eramboe, 80 km ex/ Merauke, I –29-'60 2) T. C. Maa / Collector ( BPBM)

Distribution. Island of New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Rhotana dentata is similar to R. fordi sp. nov. and R. similis sp. nov., both also found in New Guinea. It can be distinguished from both by the stramineous clypeus and the apical part of the male aedeagus bearing two pointed processes at its base.
