Diagnosis. Rhotana aperta shows some similarities to R. cribraria sp. nov., also found in Borneo, and to R. torrevillasi Zelazny from the Philippines. It can be recognized by the hindwings having a conspicuous brown mark with a round opening, by the basal parts of Sc, R, and M on the forewings being light brown, and by the male aedeagus having a pointed tip and lacking a lateral pointed process near its end.
