Key to the species groups of Rhotana View in CoL View at ENA

1. Forewings with prominent dark marks along the apical crossveins between Cu and Ms2 usually arranged in 2 rows of 4 spots each (e.g. Fig. 230f). The marks may be close together, only separated by red veins (e.g. Fig. 231f or 237f). If only one row then at least 3 spots present and area near the crossveins and the marks bright red ( Fig. 222f)...... Rhotana pavo View in CoL group, p. 84

- Forewings not coloured in this way....................................................................... 2

2. Forewings colourless, but with some dark spots, the most prominent spots near the apex of Cu just distad of the apex of the clavus and at the base of the 1st subcostal sector (e.g. Fig. 216f)............................ Rhotana ornata View in CoL group, p. 82

- Forewings not coloured this way, if they are colourless then without these spots.................................... 3

3. Hindwings with dark marks near hindmargin between apices of Cu and R (e.g. Figs. 207g or 197g).................... 4

- Hindwings may be colourless or with some infuscations, but without dark marks (a small elongated mark may be present around apex of Ms1, see Fig. 240g)....................................................................... 5

4. Hindwing marks small and located around the M-Ms1 and/or M-Ms2 forks, forewings with anterior apical crossveins lined with dark stripes (e.g. Figs. 196f or 197f)......................................... Rhotana formosana View in CoL group, p. 67

- Hindwing marks larger (e.g. Fig. 206g) and anterior apical crossveins of forewings not lined with dark stripes......................................................................................... Rhotana latipennis View in CoL group, p. 71

5. Forewings very broad, only 1.7 times longer than wide or less (e.g. Fig. 212f); facial carinae separated throughout (e.g. Fig. 212c)....................................................................... Rhotana melichari View in CoL group, p. 79

- Forewings not that broad or if very broad facial carinae contiguous at their base.................................... 6

6. Forewings with dark spots on median sectors near their apices (at least on Ms3 and Ms4), facial carinae separated throughout (e.g. Fig. 238f and Fig. 238c)............................................... Rhotana quadrimaculata View in CoL group, p. 95

- Forewings without these spots and facial carinae usually contiguous at their base......... Rhotana View in CoL ungrouped species, p. 97
