Genus Rhotanella Fennah View in CoL

Rhotanella Fennah, 1970: 67–68 View in CoL . Type species: Rhotanella thyrsis Fennah, 1970 View in CoL , by original designation.

Diagnosis. Rhotanella Fennah is related to Rhotana Walker , Dichotropis Muir , and Levu Kirkaldy. The genus can be easily recognized by the combination of the following characters:

1. Forewings with 5 broad costal cells.

2. Basal costal cell of forewings as wide or wider as ¼ of width of whole wing.

3. 2nd and 3rd subcostal sector of forewing directed forward.

4. 4th costal cell of forewing triangular.

5. Sc+R fork of forewing at or slightly distad of the middle of the wing.

6. Forewings often with many veins lined with white spots.

7. Head in profile angulated, either with a triangular or in a rectangular outline.

8. Rostrum short, not or just reaching hind coxae.

Live specimens (2 species seen) have been observed to carry their wings in a tectiform position.

Gender. Fennah did not state the gender of Rhotanella . The name was obviously derived from Rhotana and should be considered to be feminine, following article 30.2.4 of the Code.

Distribution. The species of Rhotanella occur from New Guinea, over most parts of Indonesia (but not Borneo), to the Philippines, and to southern China. The distribution of the genus is shown in Figure 121 and Table 7).
