( Fig. 309)

Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, length in male 3.0– 3.6 mm (mean = 3.1, n = 9). Colour orangered; apex of clypeus, labium, subantennal processes, sides of pronotum, tibiae and tarsi stramineous to light brown; antennae light orange-brown; mesonotum orange-brown in anterior half, orange-red in posterior half, scutellum stramineous. Forewings glassy; a faint red mark around last subcostal sector; veins stramineous to light brown, but several sections orange-red, especially around clavus tip, around base of Ms2, and anterior apical crossveins. Hindwings with part of claval vein red. In profile junction of vertex and face slightly angulated; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae by a ridge; rostrum reaching post trochanters. Forewings with Sc+R fork slightly before middle of wing; basal median cell broad, about 2x as wide as basal cell between Sc+R and M; a tiny triangle at the base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles semi-circular in outline; proximal dorsal process slender, accompanied by a prominent rounded hump (which might merge at the base with the distal dorsal process); distal dorsal process long, its base may be slightly swollen. Apical part of aedeagus divided by a longitudinal, dorsal groove; the right side ends in a pointed, terminal process, and bears a small pointed process at its base; the left side is shorter with a swollen base.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (rostratus, -a, -um = having a beak).

Sutton /B.M. 1985-50, 9 ♂ (fw. 2.9, 3x 3.0, 2x 3.1, 3.2) (all BMNH) .

Distribution. Borneo, Sumatra.

Diagnosis. Saccharodite rostrata resembles Sa. rubra (Muir) from Ambon, Sa. cornicula Zelazny from the Philippines, and Sa. rhinoceros Zelazny from Mindanao and Borneo. It can be distinguished from these by most of the clypeus being orange-red. It can be further separated from Sa. rhinoceros and Sa. cornicula by the shape of the proximal dorsal process of the male genital styles and by the structure of the male aedeagus.
