Type species.— Malagasia inflata Distant 1882: 336 . ( Madagascar)
Remarks.— Distant (1882) included the eyes much narrower than the base of the pronotum (variable now across species of the genus but still narrower than pronotum), ocelli distant from the posterior head, moderately long antennae with a thickened scape, anteriorly narrowed pronotum, amplified pronotal collar lateral angle, rostrum reaching the posterior coxae, hyaline wings with divergence of the distal subcostal and radius anterior 1 veins, eight fore wing apical cells with apical cell 1 longer than apical cell 2, bases of veins separating ulnar cells parallel, basal cell considerably longer than broad, hind wings with six apical cell, globose male abdomen, strongly convex dorsally and flattened ventrally, attenuated apical segment, separate membranes on the first and second abdominal sternites, opercula not covering tympanal cavity, and strongly spined anterior femora as characteristic of the genus.
For many years Malagasia represented a genus where species from Madagascar without timbal covers were classified. Half of these species were transferred to Anopercalna Boulard, 2008 since they were originally classified in Malagasia .
Distribution.—Species of the genus are restricted to Madagascar ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013).
