In the Yongji County (Jinlin Province) this species badly defoliated several districts of forest in 1991. Alll

younger trees were killed and bigger trees became dry and withered ( Xu, Zhang et al., 1994).

Between 1998 and 2001 similarely serious damage by the same species occured in Tonghua city (Jiling

Province), where 2000–5000 insects were encountered in a single Tilia mandshurica (Tiliaceae) . Random

analysis of fallen leaf-litter on the ground beneath the affected tree, has shown the density of dropped eggs to

be 1000–3000 per m 2 ( Wang & Zhou, 2003).
