This var. was previously considered endemic to NE Paraguay ( Barneby 1991). J.R.I. Wood et al. 24489 (LPB, K) is apparently the first record of this taxon for Bolivia, but perhaps to be expected, as previously known from the middle Paraguay river in Mato Grosso do Sul and NE Paraguay. Close to M. hexandra but consistently larger leafleted, narrower podded and 4- (as opposed to 3-) merous.
