Diagnosis. Separable from all other species of Cymatodera by its unique combination of body form, antennal formula, setation and color. Most similar to C. schwarzi Wolcott , from southern Arizona, U.S.A., but distinguishable by the shape and extent of its stramineous elytral markings (median elytral marking reduced and indistinctly delimited, and apical marking entirely absent in C. schwarzi ) and uniformly short pubescence. Cymatodera ignava also recalls C. fuscula LeConte from Arizona, Texas and New Mexico, but can be distinguished by its different antennal formula, smaller size and pale stramineous venter.

Description (Holotype). Length: 5.1 mm. Width: 1.8 mm. Form: small, moderately stout, subflattened. Color: integument dark brown except antennae, maxillary palpi, posterior of pronotum, scutellum, anterior elytral suture, tibiae (in part), tarsi (in part), and abdominal sternites 3–6, light brown; elytra with a broad, undulating stramineous fascia at middle (fascia complete to lateral margins; narrowly interrupted at suture) and a stramineous patch at posterior 1/5, irregularly margined anteriorly and incomplete at suture and apices; labial palpi, legs (in most part), epipleura, metathorax and abdominal sternites 1–3 also stramineous. Vestiture: dorsum rather uniformly and sparsely covered with a commixture of reclinate and erect, very short, fine, pale setae; pronotum bearing a few longer, erect setae. Head: measured across eyes, wider than pronotum; eyes large, coarsely faceted, vertex finely, obscurely punctured; antennae rather robust; scape large, elongate (as long as antennomeres 2 and 3 together); antennomeres 2–4 subconical, with 2 and 4 subequal in length and 3 slightly longer; antennomeres 5–10 larger, subequal, distinctly serrate; antennomere 11 elongate, sub-acuminate. Pronotum: broadest anterior to middle, narrower than elytra at humeri; sides constricted behind anterior margins, more severely constricted posterior to middle; post-anterior depression rather narrowly U-shaped at middle; surface shining, with a pair of broad, paralateral, obtuse impressions at middle; disk shallowly, obscurely punctate. Elytra: longer than broad (11:6), broadest at about posterior 1/3; anterior margin arcuately emarginate; umbones rather pronounced; sides gradually expanded to posterior 1/3, then arcuately convergent to slightly dehiscent apices; lateral margins shallowly inflexed dorso-ventrally at middle; disk subflattened above, shining, serially punctured, with smooth interstices between punctures broader than punctures themselves; punctation gradually diminishing from posterior 1/3; posterior 1/5 set with only a few, randomly scattered, rather small punctations. Metathorax: smooth, shining, bearing a few pale setae. Abdomen: sternites shining, finely and obscurely punctulate; fifth visible sternite broadly, feebly, arcuately emarginate posteriorly; sixth visible sternite rounded posteriorly, slightly shorter than sixth tergite, which has sides oblique and posterior margin subtruncate.

Variation. Length ranges from 4.35 to 5.10 mm. Males have fifth visible sternite and fifth tergite with the posterior margin broadly, arcuately emarginate, and sixth tergite and sixth visible sternite conjointly subtruncate at apices.

Distribution. Known only from the vicinity of El Limón, Municipio de Tepalcingo, in the Mexican state of Morelos.

Biology. Specimens were collected in tropical dry forest at light trap; presumably this species, like most of its congeners, is nocturnal. Collections were made in March and April, which is the latter part of the dry season at the type locality. One individual was collected on Acacia cochliacantha .
