Description. Male ( Fig. 1A, C View FIGURE 1 ; Fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ). Body size small for the genus. Head: small, slightly broader than pronotum; occiput smooth and convex, median ocellus little lower than lateral ocelli, antennal scape rounded and little narrower than rostrum, terminal maxillary palpus rounded ( Fig. 2G View FIGURE 2 ). Thorax: pronotum flattened and trapezoidal, anterior margin concave and posterior margin convex, tegmen short, dorsal field armed with elevated and irregular veins, hind wings present, not exceeding forewings, metanotal gland simple ( Fig. 2H View FIGURE 2 ), fore tibia armed with only oval internal tympanum ( Fig. 2C, D View FIGURE 2 ), hind tibia possessing three pairs of dorsal spurs ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2 ), proximal denticles on dorsal side of hind tibia before spurs (number of outer spines more than inner ones), three pairs of apical spurs (two inner spurs and middle outer spurs long, others short), hind tarsus armed with dorsal short spines numbering 4–6, tenth tergite bifurcated, apex narrow and rolling inwardly, with small spines ( Fig. 2I View FIGURE 2 ). Genitalia: guiding rods long and extended, form into spiral-like pattern at base and needle-like at apex, middle lobes of epiphallus short, accessory structure of epiphallus long and flattened, middle area wide and gradually to acute apex, ectoparameres as long as accessory structure of epiphallus, and flattened, apex acute without spines ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).

Female. Body slightly larger than male ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ; Fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ), vein almost parallel, ovipositor long and straight with apex in water drop shape ( Fig. 2E View FIGURE 2 ).

Coloration ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Nearly completely black in life. Head black with four parallel bright yellow stripes. Pronotum black with symmetrical bright yellow pattern. Legs black dotted with yellow spots in the middle. Cerci yellow.

Measurement (mm). Male: body length (from head to anus) 9.36–10.32, pronotum length 1.74–1.87, forewing length 3.88–4.04, hind femur length 5.89–6.46; Female: body length 10.81–12.27, pronotum length 1.99–2.09, forewing length 5.42–5.98, hind femur length 7.07–7.35, ovipositor length 6.12–6.30.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Etymology. brevipennis is used to emphasize the short wings of this species.
