Description. Snout rounded. Rostral very broad, three-quarters the width of the head; frontal subhexagonal; supraocular transverse, its lateral apex between preocular and ocular; eye below preocular/ocular sulcus; nasal sulcus arising from first labial; SIP T-X (N2, P, O, O); MSR 28–32, reduction A/B 0, B/C 4–6; MD 343–424 (mean 383.6, n = 17); vertebrae 186–203 (mean 195.0, n = 9); MD/V ratio 1.87–2.06 (mean 1.93, n = 9); L/D ratio 29–41 (mean 34.9, n = 7). Olive grey, each scale blackish basally, a narrow pale midventral stripe. Largest specimen (Gura— Eritrea) has a total length of 343 mm.
Distribution. Highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea, 1000–2450 m ( Fig. 11).
