Pseudomictis distinctus Hsiao, 1963: 337 View in CoL

Redescription: Measurements: Male: Head length in dorsal view 1.6 mm; width across eyes 3.0 mm; interocular space 1.3 mm; interocellar space 0.8 mm; length of antennal segments: I: II: III: IV= 5.2: 4.9: 3.8: 6.4 mm. Pronotum length 6.4 mm; width across frontal angles 2.8 mm; width across lateral angles 9.5 mm. Scutellum length 4.0 mm; width 3.2 mm. Maximum width of abdomen 7.0 mm. Body length 29.0 mm.

Female: Head length in dorsal view 2.0 mm; width across eyes 2.8 mm; interocular space 1.5 mm; interocellar space 0.8 mm; length of antennal segments: I: II: III: IV =5.0:4.7:4.0: 5.6 mm. Pronotum length 7.0 mm; width across frontal angles 2.6 mm; width across lateral angles 10.0 mm. Scutellum length 3.6 mm; width 3.5 mm. Maximum width of abdomen 9.7 mm. Body length 30.0 mm.

Male: Dorsal coloration: Ground black; eyes rufous and ocelli red; antennal segments I and II black, segment III somewhat ocherous, segment IV orange; scutellum black; hemelytral castaneous; femora and tibiae black, tarsi orange. Ventral coloration: Almost all black, rostrum orange, lateral margins of abdominal segment VI with rufous spot at each side. Structure: Body slender; pronotum rough, densely covered with punctuations; anterolateral margin with small tubercle; lateral angles rounded, a little expanded. Hemelytra not reaching apex of abdomen. Abdominal sternum segment III with a spiculate spine on each side, sternum III posteriorly strongly produced in middle, sternum IV also produced posteriorly in middle with the protrusion of sternum III, these together nearly reaching posterior margin of sternum V and slightly but obviously elevated on sternum V, apex of protrusion of sternum IV bifurcate, as in Fig. 6 and Fig. 11. Posterior femora strongly inflated, recurved, with a row of denticulations beneath; Posterior tibiae ampliated, as in Fig. 3a.

Female: Dorsal coloration: Like male, pronotum and corium rufous. Ventral coloration: Ground fulvous, pleura black, abdomen beneath with small black spot. Structure: Abdomen laterally expanded, abdominal sternum III slightly produced posteriorly. Posterior femora and tibiae ampliated at both sides, as in Fig. 3b.

Type specimens examined: Holotype: 1♂, China (Menglun, Yiwubanna, Yunnan), (now Menglun belongs to Mengla , Yunnan), 650m, 1959.VII.30, Li Suofu leg. ; Allotype: 1♀, China ( Xiaomengyang , Yunnan), 850m, 1957.V.3, Pu Fuji leg. ; Paratypes: 1♂, China (Mengla, Xishuangbanna , Yunnan), 620650m, 1959.V.30, Zhang Yiran leg. ; 1♂, China (Mengla, Xishuangbanna , Yunnan), 620650m, 1959.VI.9, Zhang Yiran leg. ; 2♀, China (Menglun, Yiwubanna , Yunnan), 650m, 1959.VII.30 , Li Suofu ; 1♀, China (Menglun, Yiwubanna , Yunnan), 650m, 1959.VII.30, Zhang Facai leg .. ( All types kept in IZAS) .

Other specimens examined: 1♂, China ( Jianfengling , Hainan), 1980.IV.13 ; 2♂, China: ( Jianfengling , Hainan), 1983.IV.28 ; 1♂ 3♀, China (Daqingshan, Longzhou , Guangxi), 1964.VII.22, Liu Shengli, Wang Liangchen leg. ; 1♂, China ( Jinxiu , Guangxi), 600m, 1999. V.20, Yang Xingke leg. ( IZAS) ; 1♀, China ( Jinxiu , Guangxi), 1100m, 1999. V.12, Li Wenzhu leg. ( IZAS) .

Distribution: China (Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Hainan), Laos (O’Shea & Schaefer 1980).

Remark: In Hsiao’s paper, this species is distinguished from Pseudomictis brevicornis by body size, characters of legs, and serration on lateral margin of pronotum. The body size of Pseudomictis distinctus varies, but on average is larger than that of Pseudomictis brevicornis . Males of Pseudomictis distinctus are more slender, and Pseudomictis brevicornis is a little spindly. The inflated posterior femora of the male and the ampliated posterior tibiae of the female are better distinguishing characters of these two species than are the serrations on the pronotum.
