Type species. Actaea erosa Stimpson, 1859 [Type locality: Florida] .

Remarks. Glyptoxanthus currently consists of nine species, five of which are American in distribution (Atlantic and Pacific coasts), three eastern Atlantic, and one only known from its type locality on the Egyptian coast of the Red Sea ( Mendoza & Guinot 2011, and references therein).
