Number of specimens recorded. 145.

Distribution. Restricted to central and western parts of Europe. Portugal: all 11 provinces (also Dyte unpubl. data).

Ecology. This species clearly prefers forests and mountainous habitats in Portugal, and has not been recorded from the littoral zone. In northwestern Europe, M. saxatilis has been found in numbers both in coastal and inland dunes, on trunks of a variety of deciduous trees and on walls.

Rarity (%). 31.0 (common). Common (FL).
