50. Dolichopus plumipes (Scopoli, 1763) (Dolichopodinae) — new to Portugal

Number of specimens recorded. 6.

Distribution. Widespread over Europe but also recorded from the rest of the Palaearctic to the Far East, and the Nearctic and Neotropical regions ( Pollet et al. 2004). Portugal: three provinces in northern Portugal.

Ecology. Dolichopus plumipes was collected in a variety of habitat types but nearly always on the banks of streams. Five of the six sampling sites were situated at 580 m or higher. In northwestern Europe, this is one of the most common and eurytopic species in the family. However, it reaches its abundance in open moist to wet habitats; e.g., grasslands.

Rarity (%). 6.9 (fairly rare). Extremely common (FL).

Activity period. April–June, August–September.
