Number of specimens recorded. 18.

Distribution. Europe; also North Africa. Portugal: two northern provinces.

Ecology. Apart from one record from a park, all other Portuguese records originate from riverbanks and mountainous sites. Hydrophorus balticus has been collected in very large numbers in boggy sites and near seeps on a mountainous slope in the eastern Pyrenees (Pollet unpubl. data).
