Key to females of Bothynus entellus species group
Females have an evenly convex pronotal surface and simple anterior claws that are not enlarged. Females of B. condacki and B. lancifer are unknown.
1. Pronotal concavity or apical tubercle distinct ( Fig. 10A View FIGURE 10 , C–D); tergite VIII with emarginate apical invagination ( Fig. 11A, C View FIGURE 11 ) ................................................................................................... 2
- Pronotal concavity and apical tubercle indistinct ( Fig. 10B View FIGURE 10 ); tergite VIII with rounded apical invagination ( Fig. 11B View FIGURE 11 )........................................................................... Bothynus stenelus ( Burmeister, 1847) .
2. Pronotal surface evenly punctate......................................................................... 3
- Pronotum with punctures confined to anterior and lateral areas; concavity weakly punctate; discal area smooth ( Fig. 10D View FIGURE 10 )................................................................. Bothynus araya Duarte & Grossi , new species
3. Pronotal concavity moderately punctate ( Fig. 10A View FIGURE 10 ); apical invagination transverse, approximately 4.4 times wider than long ( Fig. 11A View FIGURE 11 )..................................................... Bothynus entellus ( LePeletier & Serville, 1828)
- Pronotal concavity densely covered with coalescent punctures ( Fig. 10C View FIGURE 10 ); apical invagination transverse, approximately 7.9 times wider than long, broadly emarginate ( Fig. 11C View FIGURE 11 )................................ Bothynus tricornis Arrow, 1937
