Platyura Meigen, 1803: 264 . Type species: Platyura marginata Meigen, 1804 , by subsequent designation (Stephens in Richardson, 1836: 163).

Current status: Valid genus [teste Evenhuis (2006: 95)].

Remarks: Evenhuis (2006: 95) gave the typification for this genus-group name as Platyura marginata Meigen, 1804 , by subsequent designation of Blanchard in Audouin et al. (1847: pl. 164). Platyura was originally proposed without included species. The type species designation of Platyura marginata Meigen, 1804 is from the first five included species in Meigen (1804: 101–102). An earlier designation by Curtis (1826: pl. 124) of Platyura flavipes Meigen, 1818 is invalid because it was not one of the first five included species in the genus.
