Family: Tachinidae .
Current status: Valid genus [teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 217)].
Remarks: Contemporary catalogs ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits, 1993: 217; O’Hara et al., 2009: 78) have given the typification for this genus-group name as Carcelia aurifrons Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 , by subsequent designation of Townsend (1916: 8). An earlier designation of Sturmia atropivora Robineau- Desvoidy, 1830 by Desmarest in d’Orbigny (1848: 552) was found by Evenhuis & Thompson (1990: 237) in their research on the Dictionnaire Universel d’Histoire Naturelle and the one by Stephens in Richardson (1838: 478) was found here during research on the Encyclopaedia Metropolitana. However, if either the Stephens in Richardson (1838) or Desmarest in d’Orbigny (1848) designations were accepted it would cause instability of nomenclature and taxonomy of Senometopia by placing it as a senior synonym of Zygobothira Mik, 1891. Eocarcelia Townsend, 1919 would then be the next available name to use for the species currently placed in the subgenus Senometopia . Application to the ICZN to suppress the designations of Stephens (1838) and Desmarest in d’Orbigny (1848) is being submitted (O’Hara & Evenhuis, in prep.).
