Nematocera Meigen

Nematocera Meigen, 1818: 209 . Type species: Nematocera bicolor Meigen, 1818 View in CoL , by subsequent designation (Stephens in Richardson, 1836: 470).

Originally Included species: Nematocera bicolor Meigen, 1818 View in CoL ; Hexatoma nigra Latreille, 1809 View in CoL .

Family: Limoniidae .

Current status: Junior synonym of Hexatoma Latreille, 1809 [teste Savchenko et al. (1992: 237).

Remarks: Previous listings of genus-group names (e.g., Coquillett, 1910: 574) have given the typification for this genus-group name as Nematocera bicolor Meigen, 1818 by subsequent designation of Rondani (1856: 184). Inexplicably, Oosterbroek in Savchenko et al. (1992: 237) designated the same species, apparently thinking there had not been one previously.
