Odontomyia Meigen, 1803: 265 View in CoL . Type species: Musca hydroleon Linnaeus, 1758 , by subsequent designation (Stephens in Richardson, 1836: 612).

Originally Included species: Stratiomys furcata Fabricius, 1794 ; Stratiomys tigrina Fabricius, 1775 View in CoL ; Musca hydroleon Linnaeus, 1758 (as “ hydroleon ... Fabr.”).

Family: Stratiomyidae .

Current status: Valid genus [teste Woodley (2001: 267)].

Remarks: Previous catalogs (e.g., Rozkošný & Nartshuk, 1984: 55; Woodley, 2001: 267) have given the typification of this genus-group name as Musca hydroleon Linnaeus, 1758 , by subsequent designation of Westwood (1840: 130).
