Oxypterum Leach

Oxypterum Leach, 1817: 5 . Type species: Ornithomyia pallida Olivier, 1811 View in CoL , by subsequent designation (Stephens in Richardson, 1836: 779).

Originally Included species: Ornithomyia pallida Olivier, 1811 View in CoL ; Oxypterum kirbyanum Leach, 1817 View in CoL .

Family: Hippoboscidae .

Current status: Junior synonym of Craterina Olfers, 1816 [teste Soós & Hůrka (1986: 218)].

Remarks: Previous catalogs (e.g., Soós & Hurka, 1986: 218]) have given the typification of this genusgroup name as Oxypterum kirbyanum Leach, 1817 by subsequent designation of Westwood (1840: 154). Ornithomyia pallida Olivier, 1811 is the first of two originally included species in Leach (1817) and is currently considered the senior synonym of Oxypterum kirbyanum Leach, 1817 , thus there is no change in generic concept with this type-species designation.
