Pelecocera Meigen View in CoL View at ENA
Pelecocera Meigen, 1822: 340 View in CoL . Type species: Pelecocera tricincta Meigen, 1822 View in CoL , by subsequent designation (Stephens in Richardson, 1837: 180).
Originally Included species: Pelecocera tricincta Meigen, 1822 View in CoL (as “ Pel. tricincta View in CoL . Hgg.”); Pelecocera flavicornis Meigen & Wiedemann View in CoL in Meigen, 1822 (as “ Pel. flavicornis View in CoL . Hgg.”).
Family: Syrphidae .
Current status: Valid genus [teste Peck (1988: 123)].
Remarks: Previous listings of this nominal genus [e.g., Wirth et al. (1965: 595), Peck (1988: 123)] have given the method of typification as by monotypy but are in error since two species were originally included [ Pelecocera tricincta Meigen, 1822 (as “ Pel. tricincta . Hgg.”) and Pelecocera flavicornis Meigen & Wiedemann in Meigen, 1822 (as “ Pel. flavicornis . Hgg.”)]. Type designations by Blanchard (1840: 599), Lucas in d’Orbigny (1847: 548), Rondani (1856: 50), Williston (1887: 110), and Coquillett (1910: 586) are of the same type species, but were later.
