Distribution. Japan ( Shinji 1938).

Biology. Reared from unknown galls on Q. mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb. or Q. dentata ( Quercus section ), according to the original description.

Remarks. Shinji (1938) observed P. quereicola ovopositing in swollen terminal branches on Quercus . For the first time the combination Ceroptres quereicola ( Shinji, 1938) appeared in Liljeblad (2002). Abe et al. (2007) suggested that C. quereicola should be treated as an unplaced species within Ceroptres . Later, Liljeblad et al. (2008) formally transferred P. quereicola to Ceroptres . We could not examine the type material of this species because it is lost ( Liljeblad et al. 2008), and the original description does not allow us to differentiate the species from the rest of Ceroptres . Hence, we here propose to place Ceroptres quereicola ( Shinji, 1938) as nomen dubium until the original material is found, since we do not doubt it is a Ceroptres .
