Genus Asteia Meigen View in CoL View at ENA
Asteia Meigen, 1830: 88 View in CoL . Type species: A. amoena Meigen View in CoL , by subsequent designation ( Westwood, 1840: 152).
Asteia View in CoL comprises well over half the world’s species of the family, and it is rather heterogeneous in composition. Asteia View in CoL , Astiosoma Duda View in CoL , and Phlebosotera Duda View in CoL may actually be paraphyletic with respect to some of the smaller, highly endemic genera with very specialized features. There are 32 described species of Asteia View in CoL in the Indo-Pacific region, 23 from the Pacific and only 9 species from mainland Asia ( Sabrosky, 1977, 1989). The last major treatment for this region was Sabrosky’s (1957) contribution on the Asteiidae View in CoL to the Insects of Micronesia series, wherein he provided a key to the Pacific species.
