Description. FEMALE. Body length of holotype 705 (680–705 in 2 paratypes). Gnathosoma. Infracapitulum punctate. Each transverse branch of peritremes with 2–3 chambers, each longitudinal branch with 6–8 chambers ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 28–32 ). Stylophore 145 (145) long, not punctate. Idiosoma. Propodonotal shield well sclerotized, its surface sparsely punctate. Setae vi, ve, and si thin and smooth. Setae se and c1 lanceolate, enlarged in basal part ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 28–32 ). Setae vi and ve subequal in length, both 1.8–2.2 times shorter than si. Hysteronotal shield absent, punctate area near bases of setae d2 present. Pygidial shield punctate, bearing bases of setae f1, f2, h1, and h2. Setae h2 1.5 times longer than f2. Setae ag1 and ag3 1.2–1.4 times longer than ag2. Genital setae g1 and g2 subequal in length. Pseudanal setae ps1 and ps2 subequal in length. Cuticular striations as in Figs 26 and 27 View FIGURES 26, 27 . Legs. Coxal fields weakly sclerotized, punctate. Setae tc’ and tc” of legs III–IV subequal in length. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 7–9 tines ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 28–32 ). Setae 3c 3.2–3.6 times longer than 3b. Length of setae: vi 35 (30–40); ve 35 (30–40); si 75 (70–75); se 140 (140–150); c1 170 (155–170); c2 135 (130–150); d1 (105); d2 (50–55); e2 (110); f1 30 (30); f2 180 (170–180); h1 30 (30–35); h2 (255); ps1 and ps2 20 (15–20); g1 and g2 30 (30); ag1 115 (115–125); ag2 (100); ag3 135 (130–140); tc’III–IV 50 (50–55); tc”III–IV 55 (50–60); 3b 25 (25); 3c 90 (80–90).

Each transverse branch of peritremes with 2–3 chambers, each longitudinal branch with 7–8 chambers ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 28–32 ). Stylophore rounded posteriorly, 120 long. Idiosoma. Propodonotal shield rectangular in shape, punctate in anterior part. Setae se situated anterior to level of setae c1. Setae vi, ve, and si subequal in length. Hysteronotal shield variable in shape, weakly sclerotized, not fused to pygidial shield. Small pygidial shield bearing bases of setae f2 and h2. Setae d2, d1 and e2 subequal in length. Setae h2 7.7 times longer than f2. Genital setae g1 situated anterior to level of setae g2. Setae ag1 and ag2 subequal in length. Cuticular striations as in Figs 33 and 34 View FIGURES 33, 34 . Legs. Type material. Female holotype, 2 female and 2 male paratypes ( AVB 08-1401-001) from Carduelis chloris (Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Fringillidae ); KAZAKHSTAN: Ongtustik Qazaqstan , Chockpak Ornithological Station, 1134 m, 42°30'45.2"N, 70°35'46.2"E, 23 October 2007, coll. P. Klimov. GoogleMaps

Type deposition. Holotype, 1 female and 1 male paratypes are deposited at ZISP; 1 female paratype at AMU.

Etymology. This species is dedicated to Dr. Pavel B. Klimov (UMMZ), who collected this new species.

Differential diagnosis. Syringophiloidus cardueli sp. nov. is similar to S. erythrurus Skoracki, 2004 known from two estrildid hosts, Erythrura trichroa (Kittlitz) and Lonchura sp. ( Skoracki 2004a) . In females of both species, the infracapitulum is punctate, the lateral branches of the peritremes have 2–3 chambers each, setae vi and ve are thin and subequal in length, and two pairs of pseudanal setae are present. This new species differs from S. erythrurus by the following characters. In females of S. cardueli sp. nov., total body length is 680–705, setae si are about twice longer than vi and ve, the hysteronotal shield is absent, setae ag1 and ag3 are 1.2–1.4 times longer than ag2, and setae tc’ and tc” of legs III–IV are subequal in length. In females of S. erythrurus , total body length is 550–580, setae si are 5.4–6 times longer than vi and ve, the hysteronotal shield is present, setae ag1 and ag3 are 2–2.8 times longer than ag2, and setae tc”III–IV are 1.4–1.7 times longer than tc’III–IV.
