Tribe Cladonotini Bolívar, 1887 sensu Storozhenko et Paik, 2011
Type genus. Cladonotus View in CoL (type species Tettix (Cladonotus) humbertianus ).
Distribution and composition. Here, we include 11 genera morphologically similar to Cladonotus , which likely belong to the core Cladonotini . Those genera are unique within Tetrigidae in having vertex projected upwards (in frontal view), its highest part being the middle. This character is exhibited also by the Batrachideinae members, which are easily separated from Cladonotini and (the other Tetrigidae subfamilies) by the large number of antennomeres (>19). Besides the genus Cladonotus Saussure, 1862 (4 spp endemic to Sri Lanka), this tribe includes: 1) Boczkitettix Tumbrinck, 2014 (2 spp Borneo), 2) Deltonotus Hancock, 1904 (7 spp India, Sri Lanka, and Indochina), 3) Diotarus Stål, 1877 (4 spp the Philippines), 4) Dolatettix Hancock, 1907 (3 spp New Guinea), 5) Gignotettix Hancock, 1909 , 6) Hancockella Uvarov, 1940 , 7) Holoarcus Hancock, 1909 (6 spp New Guinea), 8) Hymenotes Westwood, 1837 (2 spp the Philippines, including Hypsaeus Bolívar, 1887 syn. nov.), 9) Lepocranus Devriese, 1991 (1 sp Madagascar), 10) Misythus Stål, 1877 (27 spp the Philippines), and 11) Piezotettix Bolívar, 1887 (2 spp the Philippines). This tribe is closely related to Choriphyllini.
Notes of Hypsaeus synonymization. The genus Hypsaues syn. nov. includes a single, leaf-like species, from the Philippines—Westwood’s leaf-mimic pygmy grasshopper, H. westwoodi Bolívar, 1887 . This species is morphologically very similar to the triangular pygmy grasshopper, Hymenotes triangularis Westwood, 1837 . Two species differ in the position of the highest part of the median carina and undulation of the posterior margin of the pronotum (in lateral view). A vast amount of material of leaf-like pygmy grasshoppers from the Philippines is present both in museums (ANSP, NHRS, OSF), and online social media platforms (such as Flickr and iNaturalist), including a number of new species, with morphology similar to H. westwoodi and H. triangularis . This material is not divisible into two separate genera, so the variability of pronotal morphology points that there is a single leaf-like Cladonotinae genus in the Philippines, and the name Hymenotes has nomenclatural priority. Thus, all the leaf-like pygmy grasshoppers from the Philippines belong to Hymenotes , hence the new combination Hymenotes westwoodi ( Bolívar, 1887) comb. nov..
