Diagnosis
In Triapitsyn and Berezovskiy (2007), this new species keys to Acmopolynema dilemma Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy from Hainan Island, China, as both taxa have scape of the female antenna with cross-ridges on the inner surface, F6 completely yellow-light brown, clava with nine mps, and fore wing disc with three brown bands. A modified couplet 18 for the key of Triapitsyn and Berezovskiy (2007, p. 9) is provided here to differentiate them.
18(17) F2 and F3 either completely or almost completely, and F6 completely yellow-light brown (fig. 3 and fig. 58 of Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy 2007, p. 34) ........... ........... 18 ʹ
– F2 and F3 completely brown and F6 brown to dark brown (fig. 63 of Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy 2007, p. 36) ............................ ............................ A. longicoxillum Xu & Lin
18 ʹ (18) F3 longer than F2; apical dark band on fore wing disc much larger ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (c)). .................................................................... A. pteron Manickavasagam & Palanivel , sp. nov.
– F2 as long as F3; apical spot on fore wing disc much smaller (fig. 60 of Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy 2007, p. 34) ................................ A. dilemma Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy Female
Head and mesosoma light brown, and metasoma dark brown to black. Scape, pedicel and funicle light brown except base of F2 and F3 dark brown, clava dark brown. All legs concolorous with antenna except apical two-thirds of metafemur and metatibia dark brown ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 (a)).
Head 0.94× as long as wide ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 (b)). Torulus more than one torular diameter from transverse trabecula. Vertex, scape, pronotum and metacoxa with short, blunt setae.
Antenna. Scape ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (a)) with cross-ridges on inner surface, 1.5× as long as wide; pedicel 0.5× as long as F1; F3 the longest funicle segment, slightly longer than F2; F4–F6 subequal in length and each shorter than F1; all funicle segments without mps; clava 2.7× as long as wide, with nine mps.
Mesosoma smooth ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (a)). Pronotum 0.4× as long as mesoscutum. Mesoscutum 1.5× as long as scutellum. Axilla with a row of four or five foveae, scutellum with two foveae ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (b), indicated by arrows). Propodeal setae long; submedian carinae extending to about one-half length of propodeum.
Fore wing ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (b,c)) 3.5× as long as wide; parastigma with two short dorsal macrochaetae; longest marginal seta about 0.2× maximum wing width; disc with three dark bands: the smallest, basal band just behind apex of venation, the narrow dark, middle band (0.15× total wing length) slightly basal to the middle of wing, the largest, apical band (0.27× total wing length) almost reaching wing’ s apex but leaving a distinct, narrow hyaline area at its apex. Hind wing ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (d)) 44.6× as long as wide, longest marginal seta 4.3× maximum wing width.
Metacoxa and metafemur with reticulate sculpture. Protibia with two rows of 10–15 conical sensilla.
Petiole 0.8× as long as metacoxa. Ovipositor ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (c)) 1.3× as long as gaster, exserted beyond gastral apex by about 0.2× total ovipositor length, 1.1× as long as metatibia.
