Notes: —The specimen P003740122 does not have a printed label. It is similar to the type collected by Schimper and conserved by Steudel. However, the number on the label is different (807). This might be a mistake, but the uncertainty makes it unsuitable for selection as a lectotype.

This species has long patent reddish brown hairs on the stem and in the inflorescence; the serrature is rather obtuse, rounded or triangular, with short mucros; prickles from 1–3 mm broad base are compressed, strongly declining, sometimes somewhat curved, up to 4–5 mm long, stipules 11–15 mm, linear-lanceolate; ovaries glabrous.
