Parablechnum loxense (Kunth) Gasper & Salino, Phytotaxa View in CoL 275(3): 216. 2016.
= Blechnum loxense (Kunth) Hook. ex Salomon, Hedwigia View in CoL 47: 240. 1908.
Range:— Costa Rica and Panama; Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).
Ecology:— Locally common; terrestrial in humid forests, scrub, and grasslands near timberline; 3100–4100 m.
Notes:— The Bolivian specimens are assigned to var. stenophyllum (Klotzsch) Gasper & Salino , characterized by sharply bicolorous rachis scales with black centers and smooth laminar surfaces, whereas the typical variety from
Ecuador northwards has uniformly pale tan to bicolorous rachis scales with dark brown centers, deeply sunken veins, and papillate laminar surfaces. These forms broadly intergrade in Peru and are therefore not separated at species rank.
