Range:— Southeastern Venezuela; Andes from Venezuela to northwestern Argentina. Range uncertain due to taxonomic difficulties, possibly also in West Indies and Chile. In Bolivia in CH, CO, LP, and SC.
Ecology:— Common, sometimes weedy terrestrial species in humid forests, especially along forest borders, along streams, and on roadsides, 800–3300 m.
Notes:— A very variable species that may represent a species complex ( Prada et al. 2008).
