Ophion luteus (Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL

Ophion luteus (Linnaeus, 1758) : 566. Lectotype ♀ housed in LSL, examined.

Ophion distans Thomson, 1888: 1191 View in CoL . Lectotype ♀ from Sweden in MZLU, examined.

Material examined: IRAN: 2♀♀, Hormozgan Province, Minab, Raveng , 27˚4’37.36"N, 57˚10’22.09"E, 34 m . a. s., 4 May. 2012, Afsari / Mozh leg. ( HMIM) ; 2♀♀, Golestan Province, P. M. Golestan, Khajenarenj , 1350 m. a. s., 4 May. 1999, Mogh. / Bar. / Man. leg. ( HMIM) .

Remarks: A quite common species all over Europe. Previously recorded from Iran ( Kolarov & Ghahari 2005, Amiri et al 2016), but given the previous taxonomic disorder surrounding the O. luteus aggregate (Johansson & Cederberg 2019) these records could concern other, similar species. Notably, the material here studied contains no specimens of Ophion slaviceki Kriechbaumer , which is a common species in Europe and Northern Africa. The species was only recently properly defined (Johansson & Cederberg 2019) and any references in literature preceeding that date of publication may refer to any closely related and similar species.
