Remarks: Described from Turkey and Israel (Aubert 1980). This species is distinguished from other Ophion species by the rounded right angled pleurosternal angles, the mandibular teeth, which lack internal angles (often heavily worn), the relatively densely punctate face and mesopleuron and the often quite typical colouration with the body reddish brown with the inner and outer orbits, subalar prominence and two elongate spots in front of the scutellum whitish-yellow. The numerous flagellomeres (59‒63) are comparatively stout. Study of the holotype of Ophion mocsaryi var. decedens Hedwig, 1961 shows that it is conspecific with the type of O. bipictor . However, the name decedens was described as a variety and published in April 1 st 1961, which means that the name is unavailable according to the code. Ophion mocsaryi var. decedens syn. nov. is therefore considered as a synonym of O. bipictor .
