Type host: Carduelis psaltria (Say) ( Passeriformes : Fringillidae ). Type locality: USA. FEMALE (holotype and 5 paratypes). Total body length 815–855. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum densely punctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3–4 chambers, each lateral branch with 18–20 chambers. Stylophore apunctate, 180 long. Movable cheliceral digit 130 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield concave on anterior margin, punctate near bases of setae ve and si. Length ratio of setae vi:ve:si 1:1.3–1.5:1.7–2. Hysteronotal shield not fused to pygidial shield, apunctate. Pygidial shield, large and punctate posteriorly, bearing terminal setae. Length ratio of setae f2:f1 2.5–3.2:1; ag3: f2 1:2; ag1: ag2 1:1; ag2: g 1:1. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c twice as long as 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” with 7–8 tines. Setae tc’III–IV and tc”III–IV subequal in length. Lengths of setae: vi 30–40, ve 40–60, si 50–75, se 205–225, c1 215–245, c2 210–235, d1 160–190, d2 160–185, e2 140–170, f1 60–85, f2 190–210, h1 60–90, h2 295–325, ps1 and ps2 25–30, g1 and g2 55–60, ag1 70–75, ag2 75–80, ag3 100–115, 3b 35–40, 3c 70–80, tc’III–IV 50–55, tc”III–IV 50–55.

MALE (2 paratypes). Total body length 545–550. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum densely punctate. Each medial branch of peritremes witch 3–4 chambers, each lateral branch witch 15–18 chambers. Movable cheliceral digit 130–135 long. Stylophore apunctate, 150–155 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield concave on anterior margin, punctate anteriorly. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1:1. Hysteronotal shield apunctate, bearing bases of setae d1 and e2. Setae d1, d2 and e2 subequal in length. Pygidial shield with indiscernible margins. Setae h2 variable in length. Genital setae g1 situated anterior to level of setae g2. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c about twice as long as 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” with 5 tines. Setae tc’III–IV and tc”III–IV subequal in length. Lengths of setae: vi 25, ve 25, si 25, se 105–120, c1 115–135, c2 110–120, d1 20–25, d2 20–25, e2 20 –25, f2 25, h2 variable 55–75, ag1 30–40, ag2 40, l’RIII 25, 3b 25, 3c 50–55, tc’III–IV and tc”III–IV 40–45.

Type material examined. Carduelis psaltria (Say) ( Passeriformes : Fringillidae ): female holotype and paratypes: 7 females, 3 males, 13 nymphs; USA, Texas, Johnson Co., Garen Ranch , 21 March 2004, coll. G. Spicer.

Material deposited in the AMU. Carduelis spinus (Linnaeus) (Fringillidae) : 9 females, 1 male, 4 nymphs ( AVB 06–0926–010); RUSSIA, Kurish spit, 8 December 2006, coll. A.V. Bochkov. Material deposited in the ZISP. Same host species: 6 females ( AVB 07–2010–006); KAZAKHSTAN, Ongtustik Qazaqstan, Chockpak Ornithological Station, elevation 1134 m. (42°30'45.2"N, 70°35'46.2"E), 20 October 2007, coll. A.V. Bochkov. Material deposited in the ZISP. Carduelis flammea (Linnaeus) (Fringillidae) : 6 females, 4 males, 4 nymphs ( AMU –SYR.92A) (ter.); POLAND, Zachodniopomorskie, Weltyn, May 2001, coll. G. Kiljan. Material deposited in the AMU. Same host species: 6 females, 1 male and 1 nymph ( AMU –SYR.92B) (ter.); SLOVAKIA, Bardejov, 19 January 1973, coll. T. Weisz. Material deposited in the AMU. Carduelis (= Serinus ) citrinella (Pallas) (Fringillidae) : 16 females, 3 males, 1 nymph, 1 larva ( AMU –SYR.202) (sec.); POLAND, Schlesien, no other data. Material deposited in the AMU and ZISP. Host specimen deposited in the MNHW. Carduelis flavirostris (Linnaeus) : 7 females, 1 male, 2 nymphs ( AMU – SYR.203); POLAND, Schlesien, no other data. Material deposited in the AMU and ZISP. Host specimen deposited in the MNHW.

Hosts and habitats. In Palaearctic region this species inhabits quills of secondary and tertial feathers of five fringillid species of the genus Carduelis : C. carduelis , C. citrinella , C. flamea , C. flavirostris , and C. spinus .

Distribution. Palaearctic: Slovakia, Poland, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
