USA (NM-FL), Central and South America View in CoL ; widespread West Indies; introduced to Lesser Antilles; introduced to New World, possibly native to India. Notes. The sweet potato weevil. This is a serious agricultural pest species of sweet potato ( Ipomoea batatas Linnaeus View in CoL ) where the larvae mine the stems. It is also found in coastal habitats in older and larger subterranean stems of Ipomoea pescaprae (Linnaeus) R. Br. View in CoL , the goat’s foot or beach morning-glory.
