( Fig. 1)
Enoclerus crabronarius var. deletus Wolcott 1927: 62 .
Comparison of the original descriptions and photographs of the types of Enoclerus crabronarius (Spinola) and E. crabronarius var. deletus Wolcott confirms their distinctness, and I therefore propose elevation of the taxon to species rank. I was unable to examine Wolcott’s type specimen (FMNH, designated the holotype of the new species), but a topotypic specimen ( Fig. 1) agrees in all particulars with his detailed description. Enoclerus deletus is separable from E. crabronarius on the basis of the shape of the apical elytral silvery–setaceous fascia: anterior margin curved and fascia interrupted on each elytron by a large macular patch of black setae in E. crabronarius ; fascia in the form of a broad oblique band, interrupted posteriorly before apex, but not encircling a macula in E. deletus . In addition, no typical specimens of E. crabronarius have yet been collected in Costa Rica.
Material examined. 1 ( JNRC), Costa Rica, Cartago Prov. , CATIE, 23–VI –[19]96, F. Hovore, coll.; 1( WFBM), Costa Rica, Puntarenas Prov., 6 km SE Santa Elena , VI–24–1989, F.
